Second Collective Work of Rindamus Collective

Rindamus Radio is a diverse collage of speech and sound, consisting of audio essays, radio plays, field recordings, and sound art pieces. The program will be broadcast live online at rindamus.net throughout August. On the one hand, the radio program imagines and maps out the diverse futures of the planned Art National Park. On the other hand, the radio program serves as an archive documenting life and its diversity in the vicinity of the Mustarinda residency throughout August. The program will be broadcast throughout the month and consists of both processual and durational sound works and clearly defined, themed episodes.
A special feature of the radio programming is the live broadcasts from the house, which bring listeners closer to the vibrant reality of Paljakanvaara. The artist collective will produce a live radio broadcast, among other things, of the meadow workshop to be held on August 29 in Mustarinda. For information on the radio’s weekly schedule will be available on the collective’s website and social media.
In August, Mustarinda House will also feature a so-called “listening room,” where visitors can listen to Rindamus Radio programs and explore the collective’s artworks. At the end of your visit, you can check out choreographer Veli Lehtovaara’s site-specific installation “Laituri”, which will be on display throughout August at Ypykänlampi, about two kilometers from Mustarinda House. Laituri and the listening room will be open on three weekends in August, on Saturdays and Sundays from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. (see more details below). Visitors are also welcome to check out Mustarinda’s summer exhibition, which is open throughout August (August 8–30), Thursday through Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. You can read more about the summer exhibition here. There are no overnight accommodations available at the house in August.
Through this radio project, the collective is developing artistic methods to understand, interpret, and forge connections with the cultural and social communities of the Kainuu region, the ecology of the area’s forests, and the history of the place. The collective’s long-term goal is to examine site-specific knowledge and, through slowness, to establish a relationship with time as a cyclical, unpredictable force.
The evolving eco-soft-porn series is a collection of poems about desire entangled with the living world. Born in and around the old-growth forest surrounding Mustarinda House in Kainuu, the poems capture and play with the atmosphere of this particular place. The work explores encounters between bodies, weather, animals and plants, moving through sensuality, tenderness, absurdity and sound.
The poems air at random times throughout August, sometimes together, sometimes separately, following a logic of sometimesness rather than a human rhythm. Inspired by the unpredictable timing of intimacy and encounters with nature, the broadcasts arrive unexpectedly and disappear again.
