ABOUT ODOTUSHUONE:

Odotushuone grew out of a collaboration between Niko Wearden, Vilma Mankonen, Mathilda Muk and Joma Richter, who first met during a joint course by Oo Condit at the Theatre Academy Helsinki in 2024.

The collaboration continued into the development of the performative installation Odotushuone, presented at the Museum of Impossible Forms in Helsinki in 2025. In the studio, we worked with bodies, objects and actions to explore waiting and expectation. Through tasks such as stitching, gesturing, interacting with water-filled objects and imagining alternative worlds, we investigated presence, absence, technology and how to act and relate to one another while waiting.

Odotushuone became an artistic research project exploring the relationships between technologies and waiting.

We develop work across performance, installation, textile, video, objects and drawing, building on the different backgrounds and practices we bring into the collaboration. Our collective practice is based on continued experimentation and the exchange of roles, materials and ideas, with new work developing from our ongoing conversations and shared studio processes.

How should we wait here?

How long should we wait here?

What are we waiting for?

What happens whilst we wait here?

What if we waited for ever?
